Getting to the heart of the matter

There are many ways to lose weight. Everybody seems to have their own approach to success. As with any type of way towards success, there are some less ideal approaches. Extreme weight loss methods are methods that focus on often dangerous techniques to drop weight fast. These methods are definitely not recommended. This guide will share with you the methods to avoid. Extreme weight loss methods give you quick weight loss but the loss usually isn’t healthy nor is it very helpful if you are trying to get in shape and healthy. The reasons are many for this, however, take my word for it…extreme methods aren’t good.

To start, the weight that you lose quickly with extreme weight loss methods is usually not fat. It’s usually a combination of water and muscle loss. Extreme starvation, dieting, etc do make you lose lots of water weight often. You can lose a lot of water weight in short periods of time. Our bodies are made of water! The problem is that as soon as you go back to a normal diet, all the weight is usually gained back. And more is actually gained back often.

Gaining More Weight Long Term

The reason more weight is often gained back is because our bodies do not like being starved. When we starve our body, what happens is our body then goes to the fat reserves. It ends up clinging to the fat it has to save it for more starving. So, we end up holding onto our fat while getting rid of water and muscle. In addition, as soon as we start eating a normal amount again, our body saves even more fat to prepare for the next starving time in the possible future. If you want to keep low levels of fat, make your body get good amounts of food on a usual basis so it has no need to store fat.

What are Some Extreme Weight Loss Methods?

There are many types of extreme methods out there. Many are borderline eating disorders! Two such eating disorders that are extreme weight loss methods are bulimia and anorexia. Both rely on very out of normal techniques to lose weight. Starving yourself and throwing up meals only leads to serious problems in the long run.

Other methods less seen as crazy are fasting. Fasting is basically starving yourself but it goes under a different more “friendly” name. Since fasting is seen as a religious and health thing as well, many use this as the excuse for their anorexia. Be weary of these methods. They often lead to serious eating disorders. It’s better to lose weight in a healthy and natural way.

Esther shows her yoga sequence to shift your mood, and feel happy again !

We find ourselves in unexpected, sometimes dangerous, situations and oftentimes the best way to handle it comes to mind after it’s over. But is there one simple question to ask ourselves that gives us the proper way to handle everything while it is happening? Yes.

Whether you are being called from work to pick up your sick child at school, get invited to something you really don’t want to attend or end up in a bank during a robbery, you need to know how to keep your cool and handle the situation correctly.

The most important question to ask yourself in any situation is this:

“What is the best way to handle this situation?”

The reason this is the best question is because your mind will answer whatever you ask it. Your mind is the most powerful of computers yet, if you’re like the rest of us, you are more accustomed to searching the internet (created by someone’s mind, incidentally) than checking in with own your built-in computer.

The key is to ask good, positive questions to get good, empowering answers. For example, your child gets sick at school and you need to leave work in the middle of an important project with a fast approaching deadline. Your first thoughts are a flurry of questions; none of which will help you.

“How did he get sick only an hour into the school day when he was fine this morning?”

“How am I going to meet this deadline now?”

“What is my boss going to say when I just took time off yesterday for a doctor’s appointment?

“If my son is still sick tomorrow, who will I get to stay with him or will my boss let me work on this from home and what if I get sick too, then how will I get my work done…?

Although these questions won’t help you, they will certainly raise your stress level because contemplating their answers inspires new disempowering questions. What you need to do in this situation is go pick up your son, period. The other questions can all be answered later and, amazingly enough, by asking the same simple question: “What is the best way to handle this situation?”

So, if you’re in a bank robbery and you are one of the 9 out of 10 people who gasp and hold their breath, freezing up under stress. Simply asking the one simple question: “What is the best way to handle this situation?” You may get an answer like, “Exhale.” It’s simple but it will allow your adrenaline to circulate and that allows you to think clearly. Thinking clearly may entail asking that same simple question 15 more times during the ordeal but it will always give you the best answer and course of action.

Angela Ralano asked:

Very frequently I hear women at the gym state that they are not trying to build muscle, but that they are just trying to “get toned.” Then I watch as they proceed to pick up two pencils and work their biceps like crazy.

I’m actually joking about the two pencils, but what I’m trying to convey is that most women work out with very light weights. By very light I mean weights that are under 10 pounds. I frequently see women working out with only 2 pound dumbbells.

So What Is Wrong With Using Light Weights To Enhance Muscle Tone?

First of all, let me state that working out, even with very light weights, will provide some health benefits, will improve your appearance, and your muscle tone to some degree. However, if you really want to tone up your muscles you should use heavier weights. If you are just beginning to workout then you should use light weights and then slowly progress to using heavier weights to avoid injuries. Keep in mind that toning up your muscles involves building muscle.

The reason you should eventually progress to using heavier weights is because to really tone up your muscles they need to be worked hard. If you pick up two 5 pound weights and work out with these without ever increasing the amount of weight you are using, within a very short time you will cease to continue to see improvements in your muscles. By gradually increasing the amount of weight you use you will gain more muscle, which will enhance what most women think of as muscle tone, and you’ll get stronger. Maybe even strong enough to finally open that jar of pickles all by yourself.

In addition, having more muscle will help you to burn more calories even when you are not exercising and so you will be able to eat more food without gaining fat. Also, keep in mind that muscle weighs more than fat and so you may actually weigh more, but you will look better than before and your clothes will fit better.

Why Most Women Are Reluctant To Work Out With Heavy Weights:

The reason that most women are reluctant to use heavy weights when working out is because they are afraid that they will gain huge amounts of muscle and will no longer look feminine.

Now, I happen to think that women with a lot of muscles look very attractive, however, if the fear

of gaining too much muscle is stopping you from using heavy weights then don’t let this stop you.

Most women are not going to build more muscle than they want from lifting weights. They will build some muscle and be stronger than they were before, but it is very difficult for women to build huge, bulky, muscles. In fact, most men find this difficult. The bodybuilding supplement industry makes millions of dollars each year because building a lot of muscle is so difficult.

Although it is possible for women to build big muscles, it is very difficult and you would

need to work out with VERY HEAVY WEIGHTS on a regular basis. I add this because I certainly don’t want to perpetuate the myth that it absolutely isn’t possible for women to build large amounts of muscle. The reason that most bodybuilding information for women states that it isn’t possible is so that women who are afraid of building too much muscle by working out with weights will finally pick some up and work out. It is possible to build big muscles if you are a woman, however, in order to attain them it would be your goal to do so. It won’t just happen by accident, you would purposely build them.

There are also health benefits to being stronger and having more muscle:

1. Increased metabolic rate – I’ve already mentioned this, but you are much less likely to be fat if you have a lot of muscle.

2. Decreased risk of osteoporosis – This is because your bones need to be strong enough to support the increased amount of muscle. Bone tissue is dynamic and your bones will respond to the increased demand placed on them by becoming stronger.

3. Being physically weak isn’t safe – The stronger you are the more likely that you will be able to defend yourself if you ever need to. Plus you will find certain tasks easier, such as carrying in the groceries.

If you don’t believe me, then try gradually increasing the amount of weight you use when you work out and you will see big improvements in your muscle tone and overall appearance, but you will not see the development of huge bulky muscles.

Capricorn is Here asked:

I’m asking this because I’ve known too many people, mainly women, that go around slapping their boyfriends/husbands, and society acts as if it is nothing. Even from a young age, it kinda bothered me to see men getting socked in the nuts and slapped in the jaw, only to have the audience break out in laughter. It just bothers me that people try to justify hitting. I don’t believe that there’s ever anything anyone could say that could warrant me hitting them. What do you think?
CAustin: I forgot about that. I meant ‘hitting in anger’.
Dianne: What’s not true?
Again, I’m excluding kink/consensual hitting. I’m only referring to hitting out of anger, without sexual intent.
Bob J, your point would be valid except for the fact that I, along with many of the other feminists on this board have already stated that we are against hitting, whether it’s a man or woman getting hit. But, whatever supports your biased views, right?
