As more and more women are entering the small business arena, the government has stepped it up in terms of making more women business grants available. There are plenty of general business funding programs to help finance general start up and expansion costs, but now there are programs tailored specifically for women.

With the increase in work from home moms and ambitious women interested in starting their own business, the programs thus far have been a success. Whether it is to build a part time business to help supplement your income, or your launching a full scale brick and mortar business, there is financial assistance available.

Even with bank loans and private lending, starting a business can be a costly venture. Franchise fees alone can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. Add commercial real estate, business licenses, furniture, and equipment to the mix and you’re out of business before you even start.

The federal government realizes the challenges with starting a new business, but it is absolutely necessary to the health of the economy. That’s why they are willing to put money into small businesses and take a gamble that you’ll be a success. As a result, that money will flow right back into the system with the purchases you need to make, paying employees, and general business tax.

When you are successful the economy benefits, which is why the government is willing to give out these women business grants. And they really do give them out. When you are approved for one or more women business grants, you not only receive a check in the mail, but you generally do not have to repay the money. That $50,000 grant check is yours to keep as long as you use it to improve your business success.

When some people think of laser hair removal they can have many ideas that are not based on facts. These ideas are in many cases formed by myths. It can be a good idea to research the facts in regards to the safety of this type of process. You can them make a well informed decision based on facts.

Safe and effective laser hair removal treatments have now become very popular with the technology available today. They have become permanent solutions as they burn the follicles themselves. Follicles are the roots of hair and getting rid of these follicles would mean that hair can not grow back.

Laser hair treatments have many great benefits and people are still quite resistant in many cases because of not knowing the facts involved. People have fear of some stories they hear in regards to the harmful side effects of the process involved with the treatments. The stories are not based on facts, only fiction.

Here are some of the facts you may want to consider. The so called harmful side effects are nothing more than the old myths and not based on real facts. You can ask anyone about the worst case situation that can come from laser hair removal treatments and that person won’t be able to give you a straight answer.

Here are some facts to consider about laser hair removal treatment. You may experience skin irritation in some patients at about 22%. Patients with very sensitive skin may have swelling in some cases but this too subsides within a few hours and in most cases within an hour.

Laser hair treatments are done by professionals and most of them are fully licensed. You can easily see if your state requires them to have a license. With highly skilled professionals, accidents are very rare.

With rumors that have turned into myths, it would be sad that people would have fear with these types of safe treatments.

Laser hair removal treatments have become one of the most effective and the most permanent solutions to excessive hair growth for many people.

Laser hair removal is mostly recommended for people with fair complexion and dark hair color. This is to minimize the possibility of burning. The laser is better absorbed by darker colors. If the patient has a lighter colored skin, the laser would be able to focus on the hair follicles. This shouldn’t be taken to mean that dark-complexioned individuals cannot avail of laser hair treatment.

It’s a good idea to note that burning is also prevalent when the patient has a fresh tan. It is strongly advised that the treatment be avoided when you have just come back from a trip to the beach or tanning booth.

Another common inconvenience brought about by laser hair removal is slight swelling in local areas. Patients with sensitive skin are more susceptible to this side effect. There is nothing to worry about, however, as the skin in such a case is just adjusting to the rigors of the concluded treatment.

Laser hair removal is not recommended for pregnant women. There is no scientific study that connects the treatment to birth complications, but as with everything else when it comes to pregnancy, the maxim “better be safe than sorry” is best practiced, for nine months at least.

With some time spent on research you will know you are making a well informed decision. There are several websites that you can use to do your research and gather valuable information to make the process easier. The process of laser hair removal treatment is very safe.

Women are often accused of carrying too much ‘rubbish’ in their handbags but if we didn’t carry such essentials then who else would?!

Below we’ve listed our top 20 items which should live in every woman’s handbag – without these items we would be lost!

Money – probably an obvious choice but how many times have you left the house and forgotten your purse? Get rid of your loose change instead of collecting it in a jar at home.

Mobile phone – what on earth did we do before mobile phones were invented? Well I guess we used smelly telephone boxes but that meant that people couldn’t get hold of us if they were running late, also it meant that we would have to talk super fast before the beeps told us that the call was ending – urgh.

Credit card- a girl’s best friend or a girl’s worst enemy depending on how you look at it. Going on a shopping trip? Make sure you take your plastic friend with you for a little day out.

Shopper or old plastic bag – plastic bags are evil. Fact. When out shopping don’t a) ruin your outfit by coordinating it with a tacky branded bag or b) add to the ever-increasing land fill problems by using up another plastic bag. Reuse an old plastic bag or use a cotton shopper that can fold up inside your handbag instead.

Book/magazine – you will regret not bringing a book with you when you’re sat in a cafe/restaurant alone and have nothing to look at but the smoochy couple sat at the table next to you.

Diary – unless you have a fancy mobile phone you’ll need something in your bag which acts as an organiser. Otherwise you’ll forget what day of the week it is.

Makeup – how many times have you gone straight from work to a bar or restaurant feeling slightly ‘naked’ as the makeup on your face has miraculously disappeared? Don’t let this happen again!

Tissues – toilets without paper, sneezes, hay fever…we all need tissues.

Tampon/San pads – don’t be caught out again, make sure that you always have a tampon with you!

Pen – you’ll need this to write in your diary or your number on his arm.

Keys – you don’t want to be locked out do you? Then don’t forget your keys.

MP3 player with headphones – sunny lunch hour in the park? Lonesome walk across the bridge? This needs a soundtrack.

Safety pins – why doesn’t everyone keep at least one in their bag? Safety pins are so handy. Broken bra strap? No worries. Broken bag? No worries. Broken heart? Well we can’t help you there…

Plasters – sore feet from painful shoes aren’t pleasant at all and can actually ruin your day. Make sure you keep a couple of plasters in your bag. You’ll be so grateful the day you need them.

Comb or hairbrush – cave woman chic? We don’t think so. Tidy yourself up a little and keep your hair sleek.

Vaseline – great for dry lips, dry hands and getting a ring off your finger if it gets stuck.

Moisturiser with SPF – chapped dry skin isn’t fun and neither is sunburn. Make sure you keep a mini bottle or sachet of moisturiser in your bag that contains a medium to high sun protection factor.

Sunglasses – for sunny days, hangovers and those who like to look a little mysterious.

Wet wipes – spillages, dirty hands, armpits – your choice.

Chewing gum/mints – keep fresh throughout the day, for your sake and everyone else’s.

The women of Pakistan have a varied profile that stretches across topography and classes. The urban and rural divide has been widening now; more so with the irregular socioeconomic developments in the country. Moreover, the religion, tribal, feudal, and socio-capitalistic divides further hamper the growth of women in Pakistan.

Arguably, a Pakistani woman enjoys much more freedom and better health and education facilities. Fortunately, Paki women also enjoy better status than their Middle Eastern and Islamic counterparts. The government has been trying to uplift the status of women in Pakistan, but it’s an uphill task and requires a paradigm shift in the way society (man-made rules) perceives women. Still considered as inferior or subordinated to the male dominated society, Paki women have to do much to find their own place under the sun. Almost 90% of the households in Pakistan have a male member as the head, while most household with women heads belong to the lower strata of the Paki society.

But Pakistani woman also has to follow certain practices as demands of a religious and male run society. Some of these practices are elaborated below.

1. Purdah – It’s a norm that is followed by a majority of communities in the country and is practiced in many different ways depending on the region, class, area of residence (urban or rural scenario) and family values.

2. Child Marriage – Even though it’s illegal for girls below 16 years of age to be married (As per the Child Marriages Restraint Act), there are frequent instances of child marriages, especially in the rural areas. The tribal clans of the Punjab province practice a child marriage ritual called ‘Vani,’ where young girls are married forcibly in order to settle feuds between warring clans. Interestingly, if the girl’s clan agrees to pay up money or ‘Deet’, Vani is avoided.

3. Honor Killings – Almost 99% of the victims of honor killings in Pakistan are women. The punishments given to those who kill women under the pretext of honor killings are often punished leniently and sometimes, go unpunished even. Honor killing is a term described for killing of a person who is suspected of having an illegitimate relationship (or ‘karo kari’ in Baluchistan/Sind provinces). Typically, honor killings have been reported against those women who have married against their family’s wishes, or want a divorce, or have been raped.

Cultural Norms for Pakistani Women

Women in Pakistan wear different dresses again depending on the classes, regions, and event. The common dress is the Shalwar Kameez. The Gharara or a loose divided skirt is often worn with a blouse and was very common until some years ago, but now rich and embellished variations of it are worn at special occasions such as marriages. Sari is another dress donned by the women in urban milieu. It is worn on regular as well as on special events.

While it is true that women in Pakistan don’t enjoy the same lifestyle, freedom, and status as that enjoyed by women in the West, it’s also true that Paki women are increasingly breaking barriers and making a name for themselves rather convincingly!

When it comes to careers for women, it was normally stability that was given precedence over salary. Over the last decade, with better education and opportunities, women have started coming out of the preoccupation of family carer and home management and instead are choosing more high paying jobs that don’t provide the previous stability yet give them the satisfaction of both career and a higher income.

What are those high paying jobs?

There has been a gradual shift from the traditional careers for women like nurse, dental assistant, etc to non-traditional and alternative posts like general practitioners, dentists, etc. This is a welcome change for women and society in general. When we talk about the best paying careers for women today, we easily notice that the field of medicine is dominating the charts.

o The latest to add in this category is the job of anaesthesiologists. They are the ones who give anaesthesia to patients pre-surgery to render them unconscious during the surgery. This involves proper understanding of the patient’s body and the various risks it faces when a particular anaesthetic is given. This is one of the top paying jobs in the market today.

o The role of an internist often goes unnoticed by most of us. They are the ones who provide non-surgical treatment to the internal organs of the patients when they are inflicted with disease. This is a wonderful profession and internists are renowned for taking home healthy salaries every month.

o One field of medicine has almost always been held by women and why not! It is the post of a gynaecologist. A gynaecologist is a special stream of doctors who handle the diseases related to the reproductive organs of women and childbirth. This is a very important job and women have played a massively important role. No wonder such an important job is paid so well.

o It is time women stopped limiting themselves to dental assistants and instead become a dentist. Apart from dentists being one of the best paid people in the industry, like medical doctors they hold highly respected, responsible positions in society.

o If you try to step aside from the field of medicine and consider other alternatives, you will find there are other equally fulfilling jobs for women. A teacher is one of them. Being a teacher has been a rewarding career for many women both in terms of satisfaction and income (in most locations). In fact, the constant contact with bright minds can be very enriching just on its own.

o Human resources in larger firms is another attractive field where women dominate and earn a good pay package. The human resources department of a company handle the employee welfare, recruitment, social activities, etc. In short, it handles everything that concerns the ‘people’ side of the company.

o The Fashion industry has always attracted women. But apart from being just a skinny model gracing the ramp, women can also hold many other posts that are equally or much more rewarding. Fashion designers, make-up artists, event managers, etc. have amazing take home salaries that can turn a top model turn green with envy!

o The post of financial advisor may be quite a risky job as it involves giving advice on the financial matters of people, but it is a high paying job precisely for that. Women who are good in finance and are comfortable giving advice can have the experience of their lifetime in this career as it is a highly interesting job. People are known to earn enormous amounts once they become established in this field.

The list given above is only indicative. There are many fields like sales, psychiatry, analysis etc. that are also rewarding.

Wow! So how do I get one?

Well, no matter what job you want, they almost always involve some basic qualifications. Traditional jobs which women used to hold required little educational requirements in many cases. However, all the high paying jobs usually require proper, formal education as they are most often more complex. Most require degree qualifications and in the case of a career in medicine, it’s usually a tough five to six years medical degree plus some internship.

Education may seem costly sometimes and you may be tempted to slip back and settle for a low paying job. However, that decision of yours can help you lose a lifetime of comfort and satisfaction. There are scores of educational loans that are being offered to students. You can always pay it back over time after you get those dream jobs.

Finally, some research is all it takes and you can even jump on line at your local library (usually for free) if you don’t have a computer of your own yet!

The numbers do not lie, more women then men start-up new businesses and successfully run existing small businesses every year. In fact they have a nearly 75% better chance of succeeding in their business ventures then men do. One of the best ways to ensure this success is to seek out and receive one of the many government grants for women in business.

Why are grants for women in business a good idea? To answer that question lets look at how most small business are started and financed. Most entrepreneurs will go to their local bank and take out a business line of credit, usually putting their home up as collateral. The second choice is to find someone or a group who is willing to invest in the idea with cash up-front.

For the woman who owns a small business this can create an inordinate amount of stress having this debt hanging over her head. And in the case of putting personal property up as collateral, if the business fails she stands a good chance of losing her home along with her failed business.

Small business grants for women are not subject to repayment. That’s right, once you have the grant you are not required to pay it back which can make starting and running a business much easier. This gives the woman business owner the opportunity to concentrate on growing her business without worrying about paying back any money she may have borrowed. It is important to use the money for what it was intended for otherwise there is a risk of being censured and even penalized to the point that you can be black listed from receiving government business grants.

Here are four quick tips to help find and receive grants for women owned businesses.

1. Use the Internet – The are a abundance of websites that will help you not only find government grants that meet your specific needs they also provide the necessary information you need to successfully apply for and receive this free money.

2. Research – Be sure to thoroughly research each grant and granting agency to find out what their requirements are. There literally grants available for just about everything, from starting a business to paying for college so it is important to target those that meet your goals.

3. Have a Business Plan – This can be one of the most important parts of applying for a business grant for women. This is your road map for success and any grant giving institution will want to see one.

4. Hire an Accountant or Attorney – Getting professional help from someone who is schooled in the world of applying for government grants can pay big dividends. It may cost up front but this cost can be worth thousands of dollars in successful grant requests.

Every year the government gives away millions of dollars in grants for women in business. What better way to start a new business or grow an existing business then with free money that leaves you free to concentrate on making money.

Verbal self defense, the use of your voice in a threatening situation, is an extremely important tool in protecting yourself. How? Uncommon to popular belief, criminals do not pounce on an individual when the mood strikes them. They attack when they see an opportunity available to them. If it?s easy, they will take it. They will prey on those who are weak, unaware, and an uncomplicated target.

Criminals will act on premeditation, or stalk their victims ahead of time before attacking. If you show that you are familiar with your surroundings, walk with confidence, and give off the impression of strength, a criminal will not want to work to fight you.

Keep you eyes on everyone. Just because they might not ?look? like an attacker, doesn?t mean that some guy in a business suit can?t be one. If someone is approaching you, look them in the eye, hold out your hands in front of you and yell ?Stay Back!? or ?Stop!?

Most sexual assailants interviewed say that they leave a woman alone if she showed that she wasn?t someone to be messed with or wasn?t afraid to fight back.

It?s called putting up a verbal boundary or verbal self defense. Many who have used this as part of their self defense training say they were amazed when they stepped toward a threatening stranger and yelled ?Back Off!? in a strong, assertive, projecting voice. And the would-be assailant did just that.

Pepper sprays can work in the same manner. Just by aiming at a potential attacker and yelling, ?I have pepper spray!? can be a deterrent. That?s if it is in your hand at the time.

Pepper sprays are only effective if properly used. Telling your would-be assailant that you have pepper spray? and it?s at the bottom of your purse is not effectively using it, or any weapon or self-defense product, for that matter. Whether its mace, a stun gun, or even your keys, have it readily available, in your hand.

Knowing how to use these devices also plays a huge role in protection. You must know how the device works and be familiar with it. How? Practice. Practice. Practice.

When using mace/pepper spray or gel, go outside and shoot a tree. See how the sprayer really works. See the distance it takes to reach a target. If you?re going to use your keys, pre-plan ahead of time just exactly where on an attacker you would jab them. The eyes and throat are terrific targets. Tell yourself?

?I will use this if I feel my life is in danger ? No Question.? and without hesitation.

There are even places that actually have computer simulated pepper spray practice rooms. They are extremely life-like. These are the same simulation rooms that police and security officials use for their own training. Check with you local law enforcement to see if they are available in your area.

This type of training is extremely successful to program the mind during adrenal-stress. Or another form is called Body Alarm Reaction (B.A.R). You must train the mind with a stressful situation or adrenaline response to know just how you will react during an actual confrontation or attack. How you react in a B.A.R. moment will let you know if you?ll hesitate in a life or death situation.

Knowing how verbal self defense works can be a terrific safety tool for you in preventing from falling prey to an approach of a stranger ? male or female. Verbal self defense is also another way to build confidence in yourself. It allows you to see the power of your voice, and the protection you have from that voice. You do not have to feel threatened by anyone, ever.
