Among the many organisms that live in the human body is the yeast Candida albicans, Thrush, which lives in 80 percent of the human population at anyone time. Because the infection is a yeast and feeds on sugar some women have found it helps to prevent a recurrence of yeast overgrowth by limiting the sugar in their diet. Another easy method to use is to allow the area to breathe by wearing cotton panties and skirts or loose-fitting pants.

With the increasing cost of health insurance, many women have opted to make less frequent visits to their Ob/Gyn or have avoided going altogether. Unfortunately, many women who choose this option end up with illnesses that go undiagnosed until they become very serious. At this point, the health costs may far surpass what the regular preventative checkups would have cost.

Instead, consider looking for health insurance options that will cover your Ob/Gyn visits to help you pay for your health care. If you do not have health insurance or your current insurance plan does not cover your Ob/Gyn visits, you risk paying more for health care than you need to.

Women’s Health: What is a Cervical Smear?

A cervical smear is a test used on women to tell if there are any changes in the health of the cervix. This is helpful to diagnose the early stages of cancer.

The cervix is located at the end of the uterus, and connects to the top of the vagina. There is a central canal that connects the vagina to the inside of the uterus, and it measures approximately 3cm square.

Women’s Health: Why Have a Cervical Smear?

The main reason to have a cervical smear is to monitor the health of the cervix, and to lower the number of women who contract cervical cancer. The smear is targeted to detect early strains of potentially cancerous cells. If caught in time, women’s health may not suffer terribly, and the growth of the cancer may not progress further. However, a cervical smear is just a screening process; it won’t detect all forms of cancer, all of the time.

Women who are sexually active, or who are 18 or older (whatever comes first) should take their health in their own hands and have regular cervical smears until the age of 70. A regular smear would be every three years for most women, depending on their health and the results of the last smear. Also, women who are not healthy should have annual smears, such as those with HIV. Women who have had a hysterectomy who have had abnormal pap smears in the past should get themselves checked every year by a health practitioner; there is still a risk of abnormal cell growth at the top of the vaginal canal.

Women’s Health: How is a Cervical Smear Done?

A cervical smear is only taken when women are in good health, and are not bleeding. Any blood that appears during the testing can skew the results unnecessarily.

The procedure is performed with women on their backs, and their legs held up in the air by a health practitioner or stirrups. A speculum is placed inside the vagina, so that the health practitioner can view women’s cervix closely. Then a brush-like instrument is placed over the cervix, and cells are wiped onto the brush, and then placed onto a glass slide for diagnosis.

Women’s cervical smears can be done by a health practitioner, such as a doctor or nurse. The procedure usually only takes a couple of minutes, at the most, and isn’t painful, although it may be a bit uncomfortable.

Despite a growing body of new women’s health research, the idea of equating
women and men’s health still persist.

Fundamentally, a stage is set for simplifying women’s health to a point
of triggering dangerous health consequences for women.

This is not to say that breaking complex subjects into simpler parts is wrong.

In fact it is very important to do this in order to manage information overload. However, significant problems can arise whenever you make things simpler than they are.

This is what I call the “theory-to-practice” dilemma.

For example, the 10-day weight-loss diet might sound great at first, but in the end, short-cuts to health will always defeat your confidence as you end up weighing more than when you first started.

If health issues were simple, medical and health professionals would have broken the code to health long ago. Unfortunately, many media messages continue to promote one-dimensional and over simplified solutions for women’s sexual and overall health problems.

Marketers know the time demands placed on modern women today and offer up seductive and tempting simple one-step solutions to complex problems such as sexual dysfunction.

And so a vicious circle of poor health decisions is created.

The consequences are more than minor.The social, physical and emotional impact of poor health choices impacts everything you do.Your quality of life depends on good health choices, yet women are at greater risk of making poor choices.

Not because they are not informed, but because they are misinformed.

Consider the following physiological differences between men and women:
