As a traveler, most of the time people are concerned with getting ripped off from con artists or getting their vehicle broken into. Do we really need to be concerned about crime at a hotel? Absolutely. You will sometimes find that people like to lurk around in the hallways looking for unexpected women and children. Here are some tips you can remember for the next trip you plan to take.

Tip 1 – Do a thorough inspection of your room before you actually take it. You want to look for any suspicious activities in the hallways. When entering the room, look and see if there are any drilled peepholes in the walls beside the adjoining rooms. It doesn’t hurt to have a combination padlock as well.

Tip 2 – Try getting a room that is not in an unsecured area of the hotel, such as entryways or exits that can invite strangers in to loiter. Check the lighting.

Tip 3 – Inspect the telephone in the room to make sure it is not dysfunctional and is able to dial to an outside line. When you do your inspection, make sure you also include the fire sprinklers, smoke detectors as well as the garage elevator. Does the garage elevator reach up to guest level floors? This could be a high risk for guests.

Tip 4 – ALWAYS stay with your luggage regardless of any extenuating circumstances. Make sure to stay with it until you have all pieces in the lobby area with you.

Tip 5 – When you sign in, never give your first name, but use your first initial and last name. Never elude that you are a single women. Sign in as Mr. and Mrs.

Tip 6 – Stay away from the parking level and the upper level. Ask for rooms that are around the 4th and 6th floors.

These are just a few tips and of course there are more. You can never be too safe when on a trip.
